Iridescent Omilu, Hanauma Bay, 2015. Also known as hoshi, the blue trevally (omilu) is popular amongst local fishermen for its aggression and fight. When excited, they turn a neon blue. Must’ve been happy to see me.

About the Photographer
Neal Miyake, 51, is originally from the Garden Island of Kauai. He has been an avid waverider and photographer all his life, blending these two passions through water photography. Neal has also been a photojournalist since 1987, and has had the privilege of shooting many surf contests from the water including eight Pipeline Masters. He is a devoted husband and father that "moonlights" as an electrical engineer.
